Meet the Fireproof Children Team
Team Bios
    Dr. Robert Cole is President of Fireproof Children. As one of the nation's leading experts in fire safety education, he is continually requested as a trainer/speaker throughout North America regarding preschool fire safety education and  community intervention for juvenile firesetting. He is also an  Associate Professor at the University of Rochester Medical  Center. Bob recently received a 3-year research grant from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention to study children's fireplay and unintentional injury.  

Robert Crandall is Vice-President of Fireproof Children. A 30-year veteran of the fire service, he holds a Bachelor's degree in Fire Administration. As a line division company officer with the Rochester Fire Department, he helped the department develop and evaluate innovative community fire and life safety interventions, including the recent startup of the Adopt a School Program. Bob was named Firefighter of the Year 2000 for his community-based prevention and education efforts and career achievement.   Photo of Lieutenant Robert Crandall

Photo of Jerold Bills Jerold Bills is Vice-President of Fireproof Children. He recently retired from his job as investigator with the Rochester Fire Department, where he co-founded the department's Fire Related Youth (FRY) unit. With more than 3,000 investigations and 36 years of fire service, Jerry is the most experienced juvenile fire investigator in the U.S. 

Ellie Stauffer - Director of Training Fireproof Children. Ellie has a Master's degree in Human Resources and Organizational Development and an undergraduate degree in elementary education. She was Corporate Training Manager in a Fortune 500 company for 10 years. As an Organizational Development and Training consultant Ellie developed and implemented a broad array of training. She specialized in diversity training, and change interventions in corporate, not for profit and community organizations. Prior to her corporate experience Ellie worked for ten years at the National Technical Institute for the Deaf (NTID), a school of Rochester Institute of Technology. At NTID she developed and marketed training nationwide with employers hiring NTID students, as well as teaching and supporting students in job search.  

Ellen Miller - Program Coordinator. Ellen, who has been with Fireproof Children for over six years, specializes in the BIC play safe! be safe!®  program. Her exceptional skills in everything from fulfillment to logistics to writing allow us to maintain the high level of service they strive for.

Dr. Daryl Sharp is an Assistant Professor of Nursing at the University of Rochester. She has more than 20 years of clinical experience in psychiatric/mental health nursing. Her research interests lie in the areas of health promotion/injury prevention and facilitating motivation for health behavior change.   She joined our team in September 2001.  Photo of Daryl Minicucci

Carolyn Kourofsky, a writer and grant proposal developer, has 20 years of experience raising money for major hospitals, universities and museums in the Rochester, NY area. Her articles have appeared in a number of journals, and she has won first place in the writing competitions of the Association of Professional Researchers for Advancement and the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy. 

Jen Glanton Program Coordinator. Jen holds a bachelor's degree in Psychology from SUNY Geneseo. Her background allows her to assist us in the research and development of our presentation material. She is also integral in the coordination and development of Juvenile Firesetting Intervention Project Workshops and the Prevention First Program.
